How can precision medicine be developed and implemented responsibly and fairly?

Precision medicine raises questions that go far beyond biology and medicine. Who has access to health data? How should these data be used? How can patients participate in research? And how can new forms of precision medicine be implemented fairly and sustainably?

RTF-IX addresses these questions through interdisciplinary research in medical ethics, law, as well as economics and management and through participatory approaches involving patients, researchers, medical professionals and other stakeholders.

We develop ethical, legal and governance frameworks for data-driven medical research and its translation into clinical practice. One important area is the development of consent procedures that enable research while protecting the rights and interests of participants. Another topic addresses the capabilities and governance models required to exploit medical data for research and innovation purposes.

In this way, RTF-IX helps ensure that precision medicine is not only scientifically innovative, but also responsible, fair and acceptable to society.
