A group photo with mouth-and-nose protection, generous distance between the seats and a strictly limited number of participants - the Cluster Retreat was a special one this year.

After the original date in June had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic, the retreat could now take place on September 1 and 2, 2020, but under significantly different conditions. Due to hygiene restrictions, only a maximum of 100 participants were admitted. They used the opportunity for direct exchange and networking in the MARITIM Hotel Bellevue in Kiel.

This year the focus was especially on the work in the Research and Technology Fields (RTFs), but members from the Clinical Demonstrators (CDs) and Target Innovation Projects (TIs) also had their say. Besides the well-known cluster topics, impressive work on COVID-19 was presented and discussed. On Tuesday afternoon the leaders of the junior research groups of the Schleswig-Holstein Excellence-Chair presented themselves and their research. On Wednesday, the Clinician Scientists presented the current status of the cluster's clinical studies. During the following lunch, all members had the opportunity to establish valuable contacts with the study managers and to explore possible cooperations.

The SAB members present were also enthusiastic about the liveliness and high quality of research, especially from the younger cluster members, and emphasized how naturally translational research is lived in the cluster.
