Schleswig-Holstein Excellence Chairs

Initiated by the DFG Cluster of Excellence "Inflammation at Interfaces", the predecessor of the Cluster of Excellence "Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation" (PMI), Kiel and Lübeck Universities and the UKSH launched the Schleswig-Holstein Excellence Chairs Program in 2015 with the support of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The aim was to retain excellent researchers from the two funding phases of the "Inflammation at Interfaces" Cluster of Excellence at the locations in the context of the new "Precision Health Schleswig-Holstein" (PHSH) governance structure. The selected SH Excellence Chairs are characterized by outstanding achievements in the field of inflammation research. The first eight SH Chairs were filled in 2017, followed by a further four in 2023. Each SH Chair will be funded with 1.2 million euros over six years, including for the establishment of a junior research group with a junior professorship.
